Out of 151,509 total students, 152,024 students who appeared for the CBSE Class 10 exams have qualified for admission to the next level.
The results came on Monday, ending confusion over the timing of the announcement. The board uploaded the results on its website in the evening, taking schools and students by surprise.
The Chennai region accounts for 970 of the 6,300-plus schools affiliated to the CBSE covering Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Daman and Diu.
Candidates seeking verification of marks must apply within 21 days; June 22 is the last date to apply for Improvement of Performance for the July 16 exam.
