CBSE makes GPS system in school buses compulsory

To strengthen the safety in school buses and ensure security of children, the CBSE has now made it compulsory for school buses to have Global Positioning System (GPS), which will track its location. In the latest guideline issued by the CBSE, the GPS system will have to be approved by Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI).

Last year, 34 accidents of school buses were registered with the traffic police, in which one person died and 21 were injured. All CBSE schools have also been asked to submit annual safety transport system report approved by the traffic police. Through the GPS system, exact location of the buses could be tracked, thereby putting the bus journey under school administration’s scrutiny.

CBSE had earlier made speed governor installation compulsory but only few city schools have started the process of installation. Additional SP (traffic) Anjana Tiwari said that so far they have not been approached by any of the schools to get approval for the report.
